The victory in the Battle of Dumlupınar on 30 August 1922 decisively paved the way for Turkish independence in 1923. The so called Day of Victory (Zafer Bayramı) has been celebrated since 1923 and became a National Day in 1935. It is one of the most important memorial days in the Republic of Turkey, an occasion that the Turkish armed forces traditionally use for promoting and awarding selected personnel.
Early in August 2017 the COE CSW welcomed Commander (TUR Navy) Burak Durak as Head of the Training and Analysis Branch who has now been promoted to the rank of a Captain on the Victory Day. Both occasions were celebrated at the COE CSW with a dignified ceremony. Following a Turkish tradition Captain Durak’s family, supported by the Executive Director, carried out the promotion by exchanging the epaulettes.
