COE CSW participated in exercise NOCO 2010 in the Finnish archipelago. COE focused on three major issues.

1. High Speed Boat Operations in CSW

2. Force Protetction at Anchorage

3. SSM Deployment in CSW

COE CSW conducts trials to fulfill some of the program of work projects. Mid September 2010 three trials took place during exercise Northern Coasts 2010 (NOCO 10) in the southwest archipelago area of Finland and northern Baltic Sea.

High Speed Boat Operations (HSBO)in convoy protection

This trial is a milestone in the project process. Goal is to provide general guidance and advice for the leader on the Commander Task Force / Commander Task Group level (CTF/ CTG). We explore and assess existing Allied unit/force FAC/FIAC (Fast Attack Craft / Fast Inshore Attack Craft) doctrine for tactical and operational soundness and completeness. With findings, conclusions and recommendations in the trial report we aim to provide the CTF / CTG guidance paper in May 2012. The HSBO project started with a Workshop in 2009, and continues with trials in exercises NOCO 09, NOCO 10 & DANEX/NOCO 11.

Modern Surface to Surface Missiles (SSM) into and from CSW

Several nations are planning to improve their current SSMs with capability against targets in confined waters. Modern SSMs have waypoints capability and hybrid seeker heads. The COE CSW SSM project aim is to validate tactics for successful use of improved capability SSMs in CSW environment. The SSM trial during NOCO 10 is a milestone in this COE CSW project. In 2011 there will be an international workshop in the German Navy Tactics Centre and a second SSM trial during exercise DANEX/NOCO 11. The trials and workshop reports are inputs to complete this SSM project in May 2012 with and update of the tactical publications.

Force Protection at Anchorage

Goal of performing FP- trials in NOCO 2010 is to elaborate basic Tactics, Techniques and Procedures in defence of mission essential units at anchor against divers and to investigate the effectiveness of organic & non organic assets to counter asymmetric threats.

Outputs of this trial will be an evaluation of effectiveness of force Protection measures at anchor and a report in support the creation of an Operation Concept for Defence against Combat Divers/Swimmers.
