Things are heating up! Or are they cooling down?
The time has arrived for the Centre of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters (COE CSW), in cooperation with the Finnish Navy, to announce its 4th Conference on Operational Maritime Law!
Building upon the findings of the previous events (specifically 2015 in Lisbon and 2014 in Rome), which emphasized on legal challenges in Maritime Security, we are excited to reveal the theme for this year's conference will be "Inter mundus - From cold ice to hot sands". The overall aim remains unchanged: to go more in depth in order to specifically identify legal positions among experts which may support current operations and contribute to the planning and executing of prospective operations.
Topic highlights include presentations/discussions on Legal Status/Protection of Underwater Infrastructure, NGOs at Sea, Hybrid Warfare, the High North, Search and Rescue in the Arctic, Human Rights at Sea, and the South China Sea. Of particular note will be topics from our COE CSW Legal Workshop; Intersection of Naval Operations, Maritime Law Enforcement, and Human Rights.
The Conference will be held in the enchanting maritime city of Turku, Finland the 03rd to the 06th of October 2016. After the enormous success of last year's conference, we are thrilled to gather together, once more, our distinguished international experts and look forward to the interesting, exciting, and educational interchange of views and vivid discussions.
Please see our Official Invitation for further information and take a moment to review our jam packed agenda!
We here at the COE CSW look forward to hosting you in October. If you missed last year, you sure don't want to miss this year, and if you joined us last year, you know you can't miss this year!
