Conference on Operational Maritime Law 2015

3rd Conference on Operational Maritime Law, Lisbon, Portugal, 21 - 24 September 2015

A Long Expected Event!

The time has finally arrived for the Centre of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters (COE CSW), in cooperation with the Portuguese Armed Forces, to announce its 3rd Conference on Operational Maritime Law!

Building upon the findings of the previous events (2014 in Rome and 2013 in Northwood), which emphasized on legal challenges in Maritime Security, we are excited to reveal the theme for this year’s conference will be “There and Back Again: From Origins to Modern Threats”.  The overall aim remains unchanged: to go more in depth in order to specifically identify legal positions among experts which may support current operations and contribute to the planning and executing of prospective operations.

Topic highlights include presentations/discussions on Law of Armed Conflict, Unmanned Underwater Vehicles, The Mining of International Straits, Maritime Law Disputes on the Horizon, and Freedom of Navigation.  Of particular note will be topics from our two COE CSW and partner Legal Workshops; Rescue and Assistance at Sea and Law Enforcement on the High Seas.

The Conference will be held in the beautiful city of Lisbon, Portugal the 21st to the 24th of September 2015. We expect to gather once more a broad spectrum of distinguished international experts and look forward to another occasion for a fruitful interchange of views and vivid discussions.

We here at the COE CSW look forward to hosting you in September.  Don’t miss out!
