Conference on Operational Maritime Law 2022

8th Annual Conference on Operational Maritime Law
10-13 October 2022
Vilnius, Lithuania

COML is back in-person for 2022! After two years of postponement, we are pleased to invite you to join us in Vilnius, Lithuania for the 8th Conference on Operational Maritime Law. This conference is presented by the NATO Centre of Excellence for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters, in co-sponsorship with the Stockton Center for International Law at the United States Naval War College, and in cooperation with the Ministry of National Defence of the Republic of Lithuania.

ABOUT EVENT
The theme this year is GREAT POWERS AT SEA. The overall aim remains, as always, to identify specific legal positions amongst naval experts which may support the planning and execution of current and perspective military operations.

FEATURED PANELS
More than 20 speakers - from the military, government, NGO’s, and academia – will join us to present on the most pressing issues related to operational maritime law, with particular focus on:
•    East Asian Maritime Claims and the Law of the Sea
•    Russia at War
•    Rescue and Treatment of Migrants at Sea

CAPSTONE TRAINING
Challenges faced by LEGADs during Real-World Operations (2 Parts)
This capstone training is a brand new offering for this year’s COML. Professor Sean Henseler, along with nine other distinguished military and legal experts from around the world, will lead participants through eleven distinct vignettes and case studies designed to better equip Legal Advisors for future military operations at sea. Participants are taught in small groups and will receive certificates of attendance upon completion of all modules.
