First Training Needs Analysis

15 - 17 March 2016

Chania, Greece

COE CSW in function as Department Head (DH) for Maritime Operations visited NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Center (NMIOTC) 15 to 17 March 2016 in Chania/GRC.. Objectives of the visit were the conduct of the very first “Training Needs Analysis” (TNA) for a new course “Maritime Aspects of Joint Operations” as well as getting first hand information about NMIOTC capabilities and training provisions.

The newly to be developed course will fill an identified training gap for non-naval personnel being involved in operational planning processes  which are related to Joint Operations. The COE CSW and NMIOTC subject matter experts developed the skeleton for the future course, which is expected to commence by end of 2016 at the training centre in Chania.

On completion of the TNA phase NMIOTC provided a detailed overview on their courses and training facilities. The information provided was very beneficial in support of the COE CSW’s Department Head role since NMIOTC is one of NATO’s key players providing combined theoretical and practical training in support of Maritime Interdiction Operations.
