Kick-off for Virtual Training

18-19 May 2016

London, Great Britain

The future of education and training for NATO will be heavily influenced by new technologies and the virtual environment. What is already popular amongst consumers and gamers across the world will now be approached by the Alliance from a professional military point of view.

Synthetic training aims not at replacing live training, exercises or evaluation, but rather at enhancing the level of proficiency before NATO maritime forces meet in real life. In times of limited resources the virtual environment may also support other fields such as concept development and experimentation, and will therefore play an increasing role in preparing the Alliance for future challenges.

In fact the international forum for the military simulation, training and education community (ITEC) in London provided an excellent frame for the first meeting of the Live Virtual Constructive Training Task Group, a recently established organ of the NATO Training Group. In this context experts from Allied Maritime Command, the COE CSW, Great Britain and Germany convened on 18-19 MAY 2016 in order to pave the way for the development of a NATO Maritime Synthetic Collective Training concept that will be drafted by the COE CSW.
